Kentish Gardens & Castles
July 7- 17, 2021
Join me this coming July for a wonderful trip through southeast England, whilst we visit some of the country's most icon castles and gardens.
We'll stay in the sumptuous Salutation country house hotel, with it's Sir Edwin Lutyens designed gardens, and explore the medieval Cinque Port town of Sandwich and nearby Walmer Castle. Head Chef Shane Hughes will make our opening night dinner something very special, as he presents us with specialties featuring the finest ingredients from across Kent, The Garden of England.
Leeds Castle beckons for the middle of our trip. Once called the Loveliest Castle in the World, it has a history stretching back a thousand years and is also the perfect home base from which to visit the surrounding countryside. We'll spend our days at Lullingstone Castle & The World Garden, Godinton House & Garden, Doddington Place, and others, always returning to the quiet haven of the castle grounds - our bed & breakfast home!
Finally, it's five days at Hever Castle, the family home of Anne Boleyn, another property that has also opened it's doors to bed & breakfast visitors! (but no bookings until 6 months out! My alarm is already set and the ladies in the booking office here and at Leeds know me well!) From Hever we'll roam out every day to visit some of the National Trust's most beloved spots, like Knole and Sissinghurst, and Scotney Castle. Not to be outdone, RHS gardens are also given center stage, with visits to Penshurt Place and Great Comp Garden. We'll even take high tea and have a tour of the gardens at Gravetye Manor.
After 10 glorious days, you'll be delivered to Oxford, where some will start their summer sessions. For those not taking classes, stays in Oxford and London will happily be arranged.
I can be contacted for a complete list of places we plan to visit, along with links to their websites.
With five participants, the per person cost will be $6800. This includes 10 nights accommodation at The Salutation Hotel, Leeds Castle, and Hever Castle; all transport throughout by your driver and guide, Michele Marden; welcome dinner at The Salutation, all breakfasts, and High Tea at Gravetye Manor; entrance fees to non-National Trust properties; and of course, your goodie bag, which will arrive in the middle of winter (when you need it most!) A deposit of $1000 is due by September 1st, with two payments of $2000 each due in November & February, and the balance of $1800 by May 1st.
NOTE: (There is a $200 "cushion" built into this total, as neither Leeds nor Hever have published their price list for Summer 2020. Any price raise that doesn't fulfill this sum will result in a partial refund, or a lowered balance due)
